It was a fabulous experience. Vickie and Don Elwood have dedicated much of their lives to providing opportunities for local actors to get onstage and hone their craft. I am grateful to them for the opportunity to bring this musical theatre piece to life, after all those years of singing high opera. This scene is a great scene, and probably one of the best-known numbers from the show. Emily Bourland was fantastic to work with. I don’t know what she is doing now, but whatever it is, I am sure she is doing it well.

River Chanty

From the Archives of Steve Marking

Steve Marking

This is from a live performance of Our Mighty Mississippi at the Muse Theatre in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 2012. The recording is The Trumpet Shall Sound from The Messiah by George Frederic Handel. This was a performance that my friend Dan Foster invited me to be a part of in Cooperstown, New York. It must have been in 2008 or so. The trumpeter was exceptional, and we played off each other in a joyous exclamation.

While there may be some Trumpeter swans in the video, they are mostly Tundra Swans that I filmed on Lake Onalaska and at the Overlook by Brownsville, Minnesota. This is different from what I usually post, so let me know if you think I should be digging into the archivesfor extra content to publish in between my newly created material.

River of Love

From the Archives

Steve Marking

River Of Love

This is from a concert version of Our Mighty Mississippi at the Muse Theatre in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
